30 for 30 Challenge: Day Five, plus a really odd skirt

Today I got a package in the mail from one of my aunts to reveal:

a note, and a college guide for B students. Yay...












and the most bizarre skirt I've ever laid eyes on. Apparently it's 'Ben Sherman'. I don't know where my aunt found it, but man is this skirt busy. And it doesn't look like anything I've found online by Ben Sherman.

...ignoring the fact that I look awful in all these pictures... Is this not a weird skirt? Does anyone like it? Or is anyone able to think of anything I could do with it? Cuz I need ideas!

This is called 'my entire body hurts and I don't want to be putting much effort into this, though I still have to look fancy-ish since I'm going out tonight. Not to mention, I don't want people to be staring at the now many cuts and bruises on my legs and arms. M and I having to see them is bad enough. (Account is now something like twenty bug bites, seven large cuts, and nine bruises - most from being up in a castle with puppets for close to five hours the past three days, one from my cat, and a few others from being distracted and walking into a wall. But we really do need to cover up the open wood in the castle). Though, somehow, M has none. I'm pretty sure anyone seeing me up close right now would think I was being abused. xD; "ARE YOU BEING ABUSED?" "...no. I'm just horribly clumsy, my blood is catnip for bugs, the wood I spend a ton of time on is very splintery, and my cats can't retract their claws..." But I digress. XD

30 for 30 Challenge: Can I count the same outfit five times? (Day 3 and Day 4)

Well, not really. I'm only counting it once, though I am wearing it five times, for working VBS.

I did add socks today, to protect my legs from the very splintery wood I spend half of my five hours kneeling on, though.

And then, today, after I got home and changed...

It's interesting to realize that, even three months ago, I would have been too scared to even wear these shorts in my own room. Which is the only place I'm wearing them, but hey, this all comes from my thirty items! (The sweatshirt was not in the original thirty, but one of the pieces ripped, so it got stuck in in place of).

Funny moments today included the girl I'm doing puppets with (M) being groped (twice) by a nine year old boy, the awkward comments received when that story was told, re-meeting the five-year-old who proposed to M last year (he's going to be in kindergarten for her senior year at the same school, so it's "meant to be", according to him! XD ), and roaring/snoring into the microphone.

Now I'm going to pass out again for a while.

Buttons Make the World Go 'round

Well. Not really! But they do help make three jackets interesting!

Remember my thrifted denim jacket and black blazer? Remember the A'gaci blazer that I also wore yesterday? Well, I got bored enough motivated and replaced the buttons I hated (on the first two), and the button I was just about to hate (on the last).

Three silver anchor-embellished buttons were sent to grace the denim jacket.

 

No doubt you'll see pics of it with other things soon enough.

I really wanted the button on this to be pretty. But you won't see this in action till after my thirty days are up. It didn't win a spot in the thirty. Probably because I temporarily forgot about it...

This one will def be reappearing soon. The white button made it like twenty times more awesome. I was NOT liking the navy button that had been on it.

30 for 30 Challenge: Day Two & HAPPY FATHER'S DAY

Gotta love churchy stuff... sort of. It's always hard to dress for - do I want to be dressy, do I want to be casual, do I want to basically look like a boy today hm? Because, half the time, I do want to look like a boy. More comfortable, and if there is an impromptu volleyball game, I can kick their asses and (temporarily) end the sandwich jokes for awhile. I hate those jokes.

BUT on certain days, you kinda need to dress up. Those are the days when you have some sort of holiday...or when you're singing up front. Today technically filled both, really.

I love my skinny jeans, even if they're impossible to wear without a dress (really, really, low rise).

So it's Father's Day and even though he doesn't read this blog (or care that I have it! xD ) I figure I oughtta say something.

Thank you, dad, for being totally insane and posing for pictures with weird foods and not minding flash accidentally going off in your eye. And for driving me everywhere, even though you complain, handling me and mom fighting, and taking care of this shambles we call a house. Love you, dad!

New Blogs I've Found and Enjoy

Okay, really, I haven't had time to get through the archives on over half of these ( :< ) but I will. It's summer, and when I'm in the car for hours on end...my computer will have had TONS of tabs from these amazing blogs opened and organized for me to read through as we drive across quite a bit of desert and boring places where we don't get to get out of the car. (Sadly, New York isn't near LA; I loved driving through NYC when we did, because so many wireless networks had swearword names. In seventh grade, this was hysterically funny and I spent the entire two hours drive-through refreshing my connection thing and giggling like the immature child I was). But that's off topic, isn't it?

The Sisters 4 say.... MORE is More
These gals have amazing styles. They're real sisters. Though, if you aren't into dealing with reading occasional dashes of religion/mormonism, don't touch. Personally, I think it's rather interesting to see people reflecting their faith in their personal lives. Probably because I don't run into many people who really do, despite living in the Bible Belt, going to church regularly, and attending a religious school. (Or is it because I do all those things? Sometimes, I wonder). Regardless of that, though, they have some pretty awesome diys. Also, Sis #1 and Sis #2 have some of the most adorable kids ever. They look like they could easily run anyone ragged! I think my favorite highlight from the archives so far is the no-sew cropped fringy sweatshirt. It's lovely and fun and I'm going to have to make it for ballet next year! It's so cold coming out of the overly-hot ballet room at school, so obviously an easy and awesome thing like that belongs in my life. I even have quite a few somewhere that'd fit the bill. (The no-shopping thing doesn't mean I won't try some diy projects!)

I'm combing through her archives right now, but already, I'm kind of obsessed. Especially since I saw this hairstyle. It's practically the same thing I do to get my hair up at night. Plus, she's adorable - I love her long hair. And she's made some really interesting things from seemingly useless pieces - such as a sundress from two t-shirts, or awesome sandals from old ones she didn't quite like. Rather inspiring.

hmm. Maybe I'll actually start wearing makeup because of this. She's obviously quite good with makeup. At the very least, I should be well armed for the musical next year!

Say it with me: DIYs are AWESOME. And this site is full of them. Some useful, some silly (but awesome still), some just plain epic. Also, they featured this. I need to dip into my collections of hanging-around t-shirts, clearly, between them and The Sisters 4!

30 for 30 Challenge: Day One (and some other stuff)

As I was thinking about my trip to California (under a month, now!) I realized that if I "budgeted" like I'd done with this last allowance (ie spent everything), there would be nothing left to spend at those awesome Cali stores such as H&M (MOVE TO TEXAS H&M PLEASE I'M BEGGING YOU. PEOPLE WOULD SHOP AT YOU BECAUSE YOU SOUND LIKE A&M AND ALSO PEOPLE KIND OF LOVE YOU ALREADY, K? DOOOO IT!) and any other places I may discover while I'm there. (Besides, I'm hoping against hope that Disney Land has costumes for the adults and that, specifically, they have Rapunzel costumes, because I loved her dress and I really want to steal her hair (as in, her short brown hair - it's so adorable! though I wouldn't mind having seventy feet of magical hair either...) basically, Rapunzel has kind of replaced Ty Lee as my hopeful Halloween costume. I couldn't find what I'd need to be Ty Lee (going off a tutorial someone made; some of the stuff I just couldn't find - though goodness knows I'll try again). Probably couldn't find what I'd need to make a Rapunzel dress either...

And then, while perusing an interesting looking blog, I stumbled upon this. And an idea was born. Several minutes of scouring my closet later left me with thirty pieces. I'm not shopping for the next thirty days (well, next twenty-nine, since today was day one!) Basically means I'll be allowing myself to shop around the time we hit Cali, and not a moment before. We'll see how it goes! (Also, this makes me post more...gives me an incentive to, really. I want to post on weekends, and then I get distracted and it doesn't happen...but now it will.)

Now, for tomorrow, I get to find a church appropriate, lead-singer-appropriate outfit. Because guess what? That's what I'll be doing tomorrow. Otherwise I would wear jeans and one of the t-shirts I allowed myself. (eww, I can't throw on whatever t-shirt is most convenient each day, I have to think).

In other news, I wore an (almost) entirely thrifted outfit yesterday. All the items are actually in my 30 pieces. Maybe I should count that as Day One and the above outfit as Day Two? I'll be in the middle of nowhere when that would run out...hmm.

I am an awkward poser and I don't care. XD Did you notice what that vest does when I zip it up? Definitely made for a less busty person...but I don't really care. It's cute and comfortable and I adore it. Same thing for that skirt. It's so weird how it handles shadows though. It sometimes just...doesn't have any shadows and looks totally flat and bizarre.
