I'm sorry for missing yesterday! Things just got insane, all of a sudden. In all the chaos of homework and college applications and social life, it can be pretty hard to keep a blog. Nevertheless, I love this. <3

Ah, Goals, Achievements - Plans!

Or I could call this "hey, I can't post my costume from yesterday because I may/may not have ruined the dress" but let's not get into that until I find out for sure with it...

In the meantime, I feel like I should tell you that I recently (as in, like, last week) gave up sodas. I've done it a few times before, but my parents will always somehow suck me back into them because I never tell them. Well, I told them this time, but I've been having to remind them - and myself - frequently. It's so hard to change your habits, isn't it?

I'm also going to attempt to start an exercise program found via pinterest. I shouldn't really complain about my weight/body/lack-of-tone if I'm not doing anything for it, so I'm going to actually DO something about it. We'll see how it goes, because I am horrible at following through on exercise things.

Red/White/Blue

My school's Homecoming theme this year is "Amurrca". Well, America, really, but we feel the compulsion to pronounce it George Bush Jr.-style. For four days out of the week, we get to dress with themes. (Thursday is dress uniform for Eucharist...did you know it was disrespectful to God to not wear ugly plaid jumpers to church/chapel? That's your How-God-Works-At-Christian-Schools for the day...) I won't be participating on Wednesday, because I didn't have the cash flow to buy one ($15 for a t-shirt, seriously!? It's grey and the only silkscreening is our school name and an American flag on the back...). However, I'm totally posting the other days.

Yesterday's theme was "Red, White, and Blue". I went without any white because my white shoes are either house shoes or mega-uncomfortable. Oh, and this leather jacket is one of two items I bought at discount store Fallas this past weekend. You'll see the other soon. ;)

Slow, Kids at Play

Well, okay, I only count as a kid for another thirty-four days, but that really isn't the point here.

I've been on a beauty kick of late, playing around with various makeups. I've gone from having so little makeup I had no need to corral it to actually having to buy something to keep it in. (Something that I'm somehow outgrowing...). I even just (yesterday) signed up for Birchbox, which sends makeup samples and stuff to your house. But my nailpolish collection is what's really exploded...as has my ability to actually paint my nails.

I recently got this Peacekeeper nail polish on sale at Sprouts for $2.97. That name is a guess off the colors on the site, since it didn't say the name. It's pretty smooth, but I'm thinking it'd be better with a topcoat that isn't super old. I have been using one that's like five years old... Anyhow, this was a totally simple nail except on the thumb. I'm not sure why I picked the thumb for accent nail, but I didn't want to do it on my ring finger for some reason. Oh well! I'll be special.

Shiny Letter

Want a quick and easy gift for a friend? Put random shiny things and ribbons and stuff on a wooden letter. It's sweet, cost efficient, and fun.

I gave this letter out as a gift to a friend last weekend, and she loved it. My only tip is DON'T use stuff that's got a curve to it, because it may come loose. Yeah, I'm looking at that moon earring...

Make sure to take a picture of your configuration first, so you don't forget it!

I'm actually planning to get an S and paint it for myself, though I may skip the shiny things on it.

I had the opportunity to wear non-school clothes today, thanks to the luck of getting out early and having to meet the people who did my senior pictures to look through them. I pulled out a shirt that I don't use often enough, that striped shirt I thrifted. I need to find something I really like wearing with it...

Sigh. I think I need to start finding other places to take pictures...my hallway really doesn't cut it, it's just nasty. I think I need to make a mental note to wear bigger necklaces with this, as well. The tiny blue one got swallowed. Just gotta keep pairing the shirt with random things in my closet till I get it, I guess.

I haven't updated my blogroll in forever, and I thought I ought to change that. I've found quite a few new lovelies since the last time I updated and I need to finish stalking the archives of half of them.

First up, Tha Fashion Gal. Run by Singapore girl Jocelyn Ng Jinghui, this blog does a lot of showcasing of big house fashions, along with plenty of Singapore designers. She also does quite a few outfit idea posts, which are great. The coolest thing, though, about this girl is that she's FIFTEEN. Be duly impressed and awed.

Fashion Blog is a great blog with unfortunately decreasing updates. (Remind you of anyone here...?) However, when Kristina posts something, it's almost always extremely good. I don't think there's a post on there that I don't like, and it's given me plenty of ideas. The archives are worth a read while you hope for more posts.

Clothes Horse NYC LA is a blog run by Amelia Alvarez. It's wonderful and gorgeous. I also need to stalk my way through the blogs on her amazing blogroll.

Style Pennies is a blog by Katelyn, the wife of a guy in the army. She's funny, and has lots of cool ideas for living on a budget. Just be warned, if you're on the less religious side of things, this is another blog where religion does get involved. Regardless of that, there are a lot of supercool DIY projects on there. My favorite is this DIY that gives a headband idea.

Living Wonderful is a lifestyle blog by Canadian Jessica. She shares cool recipes, fun and not-so-fun stories, and intriguing thoughts about life in general. I really like reading this.

Procrastinating Pretty has taught me more about makeup in just a few weeks of reading than anything else in my life (I'm still pushing my way through the archives of other makeup blogs...). It's seriously great, and I love watching the videos from here.

School Style

I have a majorly strict dress code. We have to wear either a blue or white polo (with school logo), a white oxford, or a white midi blouse (think Sailor Moon for that shirt), with a plaid skirt, as our regular uniform. On Eucharist days, we have to wear a plaid jumper that fits an eight-year-old better than it does an eighteen-year-old, with a white oxford or white midi shirt. Jackets MUST be bought at the school store. Patterned or non-white/navy blue/black/grey tights are not allowed. If you're in lower school, you aren't allowed to wear anything but tennis shoes (I do not miss those days). Girls aren't allowed to wear pants unless it's cold. (And even if it's freezing cold, ie, Snowmageddon of the South, we don't get to wear non-school jackets...)

This leads to wondering how on earth you can show your individuality at school, especially when your skirts even have a regulation length (at least two inches above the knee, for me). My solution is to go for the shoes, the hair, and jewelry.

 

My necklace collection makes frequent appearances at school, as does my gold cuff bracelet. I usually go for flats, but I finally gave in to the part of my brain that has been screeching about boots since I stopped wearing them last year, and pulled out the tights. It's still, technically, too hot for tights in Texas, but I justified it with the fact that all my classrooms are freezing. Another thing that helps is tailoring (though I haven't really bothered with most of my things for school...), and, if you've got something as open-ended as 'white oxford' finding something that flatters you. (I'm still looking for that, as you can tell - I could use tips on how to buy button downs while having a large chest!) Find a non-traditional hairstyle you look good with, get proficient at it, and you will stand out sooo much.

I hope this helps anyone out there who struggles with their dress code.

I love windowseats. The most cripplingly sad thing about my old house and my new one is the lack of window seats in my room. My parents have one (and had one) and so did the dining room in each, but not my bedroom! No fair. :< If I ever own my own house, I'm going to ensure the existence of a window seat with every window. Seriously.
