Slow, Kids at Play

Well, okay, I only count as a kid for another thirty-four days, but that really isn't the point here.

I've been on a beauty kick of late, playing around with various makeups. I've gone from having so little makeup I had no need to corral it to actually having to buy something to keep it in. (Something that I'm somehow outgrowing...). I even just (yesterday) signed up for Birchbox, which sends makeup samples and stuff to your house. But my nailpolish collection is what's really exploded...as has my ability to actually paint my nails.

Peacekeeper Paint Me Nonviolent.

Sally Girl, some color I can't find the name of.

I recently got this Peacekeeper nail polish on sale at Sprouts for $2.97. That name is a guess off the colors on the site, since it didn't say the name. It's pretty smooth, but I'm thinking it'd be better with a topcoat that isn't super old. I have been using one that's like five years old... Anyhow, this was a totally simple nail except on the thumb. I'm not sure why I picked the thumb for accent nail, but I didn't want to do it on my ring finger for some reason. Oh well! I'll be special.

Fantabulous!

Happy Friday y'all!

From here. I'm a super-huge Harry Potter fan, only saw the last movie LAST WEEKEND, and I've kind of been in depression mode ever since. ;-;

From here. I would love to do this sooo much.

From here. I'm in lust with these satchels, I just want a billion of them.

From here. This is just...stunning.

From tumblr, somewhere. I just want to be Emma Watson for a day...

The source doesn't work, but it came from tumblr.
I'd love it if my hair looked like this...but regardless of wishing, this is just beautiful.

From here. A very true sentiment.

From here. These are the cutest. I want like a million of them.

From here. I get so hungry looking at them.

From here. I think I'll be trying to get my hands on some of these.

What have you loved this week?

Shiny Letter

Want a quick and easy gift for a friend? Put random shiny things and ribbons and stuff on a wooden letter. It's sweet, cost efficient, and fun.

I gave this letter out as a gift to a friend last weekend, and she loved it. My only tip is DON'T use stuff that's got a curve to it, because it may come loose. Yeah, I'm looking at that moon earring...

Make sure to take a picture of your configuration first, so you don't forget it!

I'm actually planning to get an S and paint it for myself, though I may skip the shiny things on it.

Stripes~

I had the opportunity to wear non-school clothes today, thanks to the luck of getting out early and having to meet the people who did my senior pictures to look through them. I pulled out a shirt that I don't use often enough, that striped shirt I thrifted. I need to find something I really like wearing with it...

Shirt/Bracelet - thrifted | Skirt - Charlotte Russe | Shoes - Wet Seal | Necklace - gift | Bow - I don't know, I think I found it on the floor somewhere

Sigh. I think I need to start finding other places to take pictures...my hallway really doesn't cut it, it's just nasty. I think I need to make a mental note to wear bigger necklaces with this, as well. The tiny blue one got swallowed. Just gotta keep pairing the shirt with random things in my closet till I get it, I guess.

Any hard-to-dress items you still love in your closet?

Additions to the Blogroll

Happy Wednesday!

I haven't updated my blogroll in forever, and I thought I ought to change that. I've found quite a few new lovelies since the last time I updated and I need to finish stalking the archives of half of them.

First up, Tha Fashion Gal. Run by Singapore girl Jocelyn Ng Jinghui, this blog does a lot of showcasing of big house fashions, along with plenty of Singapore designers. She also does quite a few outfit idea posts, which are great. The coolest thing, though, about this girl is that she's FIFTEEN. Be duly impressed and awed.

Fashion Blog is a great blog with unfortunately decreasing updates. (Remind you of anyone here...?) However, when Kristina posts something, it's almost always extremely good. I don't think there's a post on there that I don't like, and it's given me plenty of ideas. The archives are worth a read while you hope for more posts.

Clothes Horse NYC LA is a blog run by Amelia Alvarez. It's wonderful and gorgeous. I also need to stalk my way through the blogs on her amazing blogroll.

Style Pennies is a blog by Katelyn, the wife of a guy in the army. She's funny, and has lots of cool ideas for living on a budget. Just be warned, if you're on the less religious side of things, this is another blog where religion does get involved. Regardless of that, there are a lot of supercool DIY projects on there. My favorite is this DIY that gives a headband idea.

Living Wonderful is a lifestyle blog by Canadian Jessica. She shares cool recipes, fun and not-so-fun stories, and intriguing thoughts about life in general. I really like reading this.

Procrastinating Pretty has taught me more about makeup in just a few weeks of reading than anything else in my life (I'm still pushing my way through the archives of other makeup blogs...). It's seriously great, and I love watching the videos from here.

Got any blog suggestions for me?

School Style

I have a majorly strict dress code. We have to wear either a blue or white polo (with school logo), a white oxford, or a white midi blouse (think Sailor Moon for that shirt), with a plaid skirt, as our regular uniform. On Eucharist days, we have to wear a plaid jumper that fits an eight-year-old better than it does an eighteen-year-old, with a white oxford or white midi shirt. Jackets MUST be bought at the school store. Patterned or non-white/navy blue/black/grey tights are not allowed. If you're in lower school, you aren't allowed to wear anything but tennis shoes (I do not miss those days). Girls aren't allowed to wear pants unless it's cold. (And even if it's freezing cold, ie, Snowmageddon of the South, we don't get to wear non-school jackets...)

This leads to wondering how on earth you can show your individuality at school, especially when your skirts even have a regulation length (at least two inches above the knee, for me). My solution is to go for the shoes, the hair, and jewelry.

My necklace collection makes frequent appearances at school, as does my gold cuff bracelet. I usually go for flats, but I finally gave in to the part of my brain that has been screeching about boots since I stopped wearing them last year, and pulled out the tights. It's still, technically, too hot for tights in Texas, but I justified it with the fact that all my classrooms are freezing. Another thing that helps is tailoring (though I haven't really bothered with most of my things for school...), and, if you've got something as open-ended as 'white oxford' finding something that flatters you. (I'm still looking for that, as you can tell - I could use tips on how to buy button downs while having a large chest!) Find a non-traditional hairstyle you look good with, get proficient at it, and you will stand out sooo much.

I hope this helps anyone out there who struggles with their dress code.

HAPPY COLUMBUS DAY!

(Or, as my Gov teacher calls it, "Happy Government-sponsored holiday"...)

Have something I find uplifting/magical/sososo beautiful, though it starts out pretty sad:

Fantabulous~

I thought I ought to have something regular to post, and it occurred to me, why not show off some of my favorite things from a week? The things that I think are awesome, fun, whatever. I don't exactly seem to show a lot of my inspiration here, though I do show a lot of it on my pinterest. So we'll take one of my latest favorites from each of my boards. ^^

From here.
I am in love with these flats, seriously. Logic informs me that a pair of $195 dollar flats is absolutely ridiculous, but my shoe obsession tells me that they're perfect. Sigh. Maybe I need to learn to make shoes till I make enough to afford stuff like this...

From here.

I love windowseats. The most cripplingly sad thing about my old house and my new one is the lack of window seats in my room. My parents have one (and had one) and so did the dining room in each, but not my bedroom! No fair. :< If I ever own my own house, I'm going to ensure the existence of a window seat with every window. Seriously.

This thing looks a little weird, but I'd love one that was made for American plugs. I have soooo many cords running rampant in my room, and about three different power strips, and it drives me crazy! A hub for all those would be nice.

Boldogkőváralja, Hungary. It's just absolutely gorgeous.

Keiko Lynn is gorgeous and amazing.

I love this tutorial, which I'm definitely trying soon. It's fairly simple, and it looks gorgeous. Definite love for this!

Cannot find the source. :( Pinterest just tells me it's 'Google'.

From here.
Am definitely going to be trying this to handle my ribbon stash. ;)

What have you fallen in love with this week?

Earrings

I loooove clip-on earrings, but they hurt like hell to wear. I only wear them for special occasions, thus. (Why my ears are not pierced: my skin thinks earrings are a part of the skin and thus they can totes be grown over and I am NEVER again going to deal with the level of disgusting that was).

I did wanna display my clip-ons like I do the rest of my jewelry, though, so out came the ribbon stash. I have a white ribbon with little perforations in it, which I immediately decided to use that to hold my earrings.

These need to get turned into clip-ons...

YAY CHARMING CHARLIE'S!

Animal Side

This is indeed for BDIB: Animal Instinct. I guess I should start by saying I'm not actually a fan of animal prints? I was heavily into them back when my brother was married, because I idolized his then-wife, who I vividly remember wore leopard-print everything. So I have a bunch of animal-print scarves laying around... All my other stuff got dumped ages ago because it was too small/too ugly.

Leopard shawl/scarf - no clue | Top - La Luna Loca | Headband/Pants - F21 | Shoes - Rue21 | Earrings - Charming Charlie's

Is it fashion blogger blasphemy that I dislike animal prints? Because I really do. I'm sorry, I just...can't stand them these days, and I have no idea why. Maybe I'll overcome it like I overcame the floral hate...wearing it with only black is a step in that direction, I think.

Oh well! They generally look okay with all-black.
(I need to take the LLL shirt in...it's a medium, I think, but it's huge on me... add it to the to-do list).

My Favorite Outfit

Remember that shirt I got forever ago from Forever 21, with flowers on it? It's become my favorite article of clothing.

Top - Forever 21 | Jeans - so old I don't even know | Shoes - someplace called Mitzi's | Necklace - gifted

This is like my default outfit now...

Go Ravenclaw! (And Gryffindor too!)

...it actually didn't occur to me that I was doing those House colors when I was doing my nails. Sure, there was no bronze for the Ravens, but gold's close enough for this.

Sally Girl (via Sally Beauty Supply) 'Mean Streak'.

F21 'Red' - it is GLITTER.

F21 'Gold'.

Experimenting with nail patterns is pretty fun. I'm considering grabbing one of those nail markers and trying that for chevron nails the next time I swap colors.

Got cool nails today?
